General
The Hellenic Association of Mechanical & Electrical Engineers (HAMEE) is a scientific and professional union of the mechanical - electrical, mechanical, electrical, marine, aeronautical, electronic and computer science engineers of the country and is based in Athens. There are also 25 regional departments covering the whole of the country.
History
The Hellenic Association of Mechanical & Electrical Engineers was founded in 1947.
Its main activities are:
- Participation, on a constant basis, in the technological development of the country.
- Intervention on public life matters, concerning relevant activities, such as environmental issues, safety, industrial development.
- Publication of technical aids and references for its members (e.g. Professional Guide for Mechanical & Electrical Engineers).
- The organisation of seminars and conferences on professional training and information matters.
Objectives
The objectives of the Association are:
- To raise the scientific and professional level of its members by organising and coordinating their efforts.
- To secure their financial and professional interests.
- To improve the terms and conditions of their profession.
- To help the State by offering the services of its members for the promotion of the technology in the country or any other matter relevant to the discipline of its members
Relations with Greek State
HAMEE is involved in the governmental affairs in a consulting role. Usually, government agencies (ministries. the Technical Chamber of Greece, etc.) invite the Association to express its opinions on scientific and social issues. Then, the Board of the Association selects the right persons among its members to act as representatives of the Association.
International Relations
HAMEE is represented in the national representation committee of FEANI (European Federation of Engineers) by the Secretary General of the Association. HAMEE has also signed recently an agreement with ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) covering every activity of the two Associations. Finally HAMEE has participated in the 3rd ICOMES meeting, in Canada.
HAMEE is the hosting society for the 5th ICOMES meeting in Athens.
